on December 6, 2025 — exactly 160 years after the ratification of the 13th Amendment — the Black Healing Collective will host The Rent Is Still Due: An Evening of Care, an intimate night of storytelling, connection, and community hosted by acclaimed author and cultural advocate Christine Platt, The Afrominimalist. inspired by the early 20th-century tradition of rent parties — where Black neighbors gathered to keep one another housed — this event honors the legacy of collective care while raising critical funds to ensure Black women and femmes remain safely housed and supported in the face of ongoing inequity, rising rents, and systemic neglect.
